Khallela Barracks is a Barnard College Class of 2021 graduate and a proud Queens native of Jamaican and Nigerian descent. She currently attends Columbia University’s Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate Program and will be applying to medical schools in the near future. Outside her coursework, she has dedicated her time to public health research. Her first publication was titled, “Curable Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Women with HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa,” published in January 2022 in the journal AIDS. At this time, she is working on another study at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which focuses on effective delivery methods for infants born with shoulder dystocia. Khallela is passionate about creating solutions to address health inequities facing the African diaspora, and she is excited to work with a publication that aims to bring attention to these matters.
